The Spectrum of the Deaf

The spectrum of the deaf is a protocol designed by artist LAURET Mathilde, partially linked with synesthesia and inspired by the existing audible sound spectrum. Although this is not the artist's will, it is sometimes compared to the colour and shape protocol of Vasily Kandinsky or the plastic alphabet of Auguste Herbin.

The protocol below, in the form of images, is proposed for information but is not free from its rights of use.

Description:

Triangle: often associated with a sound that seems to break, slam, scratch or ache (example: ball that falls on a table).
Rectangle or square: often associated with a simple, constant sound.
Circle: often associated with a serious sound, which seems to include in a bubble the listener.
Curves or arcs: often associated for sound duration and duration intensity.
Straight lines: often associated for sound height.

Black: the sound is very serious to the point of being unbearable.
Grey: The sound is very serious.
Brown: The sound is serious but not strong enough.
Violet: A serious sound is perceived and remains rather weak.
Marine blue: a strong ambient sound.
Turquoise blue: An ambient sound of normal intensity.
Green: An ambient sound lambda.
Red: often associated with perceived speech, it can also represent heartbeats that fill the void if there are no other sounds.
Orange: A sound that leads to confusion, between heartbeats, perceived body noises and compression of vibrations in the ambient air.
Magenta or pink: The perceived speech or compression of vibrations in the perceived ambient air is low.
Yellow: The perceived sound is sharp or squeaky.
